When you come home from work, all you want to do is sit on the couch and play on your phone or watch tv. You want to do nothing basically. Work has zapped you of all your energy. It always does! The problem is that you don’t want it to. Your job shouldn’t be the only thing in your life! That’s why you need some hobbies to do after work.

To express yourself and find something just for you, you need to find a hobby. Your job does not define you! It’s okay to have other interests. Here are a few great hobbies for you to try after work to get your life back!

Reading

To relax after work but to still do something for yourself, try reading! Reading is one way to enjoy your time after work without feeling stressed. Personally, my favourite after work (and before work, I can’t lie) activity is reading. I just love to read! When you have time to yourself, you can learn more from books or just have a nice time reading.

Books are perfect for de-stressing after a long day. Reading might be exactly what you need for an after-work activity!

Gaming

Gaming isn’t on top of everyone’s list for after-work activities, however, it’s something we all do after work regardless. We end up playing whatever game we have on our phones anyway, so why not choose a game purposefully? You can choose to play a game on your phone or your computer.

Gaming is great for getting your mind off your work and having fun! Gaming might end up being a passion of yours. You can find a game you really love!

Colouring

There are so many colouring books out there for adults. The books are supposed to be for relaxing and de-stressing. Sometimes it’s fun just to do a mindless activity that you don’t have to concentrate too hard on. I have a wonderful Disney colouring book that I tend to use while watching movies.

Working all day is stressful and hard, which is why you need something to help you de-stress. Colouring is just for you if you need an activity to keep your mind off of work without needing to put too much effort into it.

Cooking

After work, you have to eat regardless of whether you want to or not. So it’s a great idea to start trying a little harder to make your meals. Maybe you get takeout more than a few times a week or you eat tv dinners all the time, but you just want more. Cooking isn’t everyone’s specialty; however, trying never hurt anyone! (Unless you burn down the house! If that is your level of cooking, maybe you should skip this one!)

If you want to try a new hobby that is really productive for you, I would suggest you try getting better at cooking. Your meals will suddenly taste so much better than what you are used to! You’ll find some amazing new recipes and perhaps a new favourite. It’s worth giving it a try!

Biking

If you are looking for something a little more active, you can always try biking! Biking allows you to get out some of that energy you stored over the day. When you sit at your desk for hours, you sometimes need to move your body around a little bit. Biking allows you to exercise and gives you something else to do other than sitting.

Biking is good for getting out of the house and enjoying the outdoors. If you work in an office all day or work from home, you probably don’t see the outside world too often. After work is a great time to get some fresh air and a new view!

Card Games

If you are looking for something a little more social to do after your busy workday, why not try playing cards? Card games are fun! You get to put some thought into more than just your work for once and have a good time with friends. What’s not to love?

Card games are great for taking your mind off of work for a few hours. You might even find that you’ve found an activity you and all your friends can bond over.

Meditation

Next, you have meditation. Meditation is one of the best hobbies to do after work. It’s the perfect way to relax after a long day of work. You just need to clear your mind of all the stress you felt that day.

It might take some time for you to get used to meditation, especially when you are stressed and can’t get those thoughts out of your head. But you are going to get so much from meditation that makes it so worthwhile. It’s great for your mind and de-stressing. It’ll make a great addition to your nightly schedule.

Puzzles

Puzzles, any kind really, are great for unwinding after work. I mean, who doesn’t love a good sudoku puzzle? Figuring out different kinds of puzzles is the perfect hobby to do after work. You can get your mind off of work and all the other things that are worrying you. They make a great distraction.

There are lots of different kinds of puzzles you can try: crosswords, sudoku, cryptograms, and puzzles in general. If you love activities with numbers or words, there is something for you!

Listening to Podcast

Podcasts are great for relaxing after a long day. Just imagine laying in a bubble bath with some candles and an inspiring podcast to go with it. It sounds like the perfect way to relax after a long day!

Podcasts are also great for learning new things. I love to listen to podcasts about blogging to learn more about it (hint* hint* Thrive Podcast). That way I can provide better content for all of you! You can learn while you relax. It’s the perfect combo!

Photography

The time after you get home from work is the perfect time to take pictures! In my opinion, dusk clouds are absolutely beautiful and my favourite thing to photograph. The colours just pop! If you love to take photographs, photos at night are really pretty. However, you might need some photography experience before you start taking pictures at night. It can get a little complicated with lighting and everything else.

Photos in the afternoon can be quite beautiful too. Either way, it’s just great to be able to take photos to enjoy something you love after work.

Stand-Up Comedy

What better time to do stand-up comedy than after work? Stand-up comedy pretty much has to be done after work hours. From what I understand, stand-up comedy is the kind of thing you would do in a club. Club hours are, of course, after work hours.

It helps that comedy is always just a little funnier after a long day of work when you just need to let loose. Everyone always needs a good laugh after working hard all day. It just makes sense to do stand-up comedy after work!

De-stressing after work is important when you want to stay true to yourself. You are more than your work! You deserve to think of yourself as more than just your job. Because of thoughts like that, you need some time to de-stress after work. These hobbies are just what you need to get back to yourself even with a busy work schedule. Let us know which hobbies you like to do after work to de-stress!
