Blogging can be tough. I won’t sugarcoat it. A lot goes into blogging, including writing, taking pictures, doing social media, and so much more. However, the best way to overcome the difficulties is to improve those hobbies for blogging.

The hobbies below are exactly what you need to be working on to make your blog take off! Without these skills, you are less likely to see the results you want. So let’s make the most of it and start making our blogs are great as they can be!

Writing

Writing is a fundamental skill you need to start blogging. Obviously, a big part of blogging is writing blog posts. There is no point in doing anything else if you don’t have any posts to bring in traffic.

Writing is the hobby you need to work on the most at first. The more posts you have, the more likely you are to get traffic to your blog.

Blog posts are the foundation for your blog!

Luckily, your writing abilities get better with time. Once you’ve been writing for a while, you start to get into the groove of writing blog posts.

The best advice I can give is to start writing and allow yourself to grow your skills. You can go back and rewrite your posts in a year. Just get those blog posts out there at first!

Proofreading and Editing

Next up, we have proofreading and editing. Right after writing, you also need to work on your editing skills. It’s not worth writing blog posts if no one is going to read them.

Running a blog is more than just posting content. It’s about posting quality content!

However, not being good at editing and proofreading is not a deal-breaker. You can hire or ask someone else to read your posts before you publish them. Grammarly is a good app to have too. Even the free version can make a difference.

Like writing, your editing skills will get better with time. You just have to work on it!

Photography

When it comes to hobbies for blogging, you always have to consider photography. Pictures are a big part of blog posts. They help make content more visual, pleasant to look at, and easy to read.

I write a lot about bullet journaling, so I have to have pictures to support that. For example, if I want to write about mental health spreads, I have to have pictures of those spreads.

When you have pictures you took on your blog instead of stock photos, you are more credible. It shows that you not only know about your niche but you have first-hand experience with it too.

Pictures are important! A lot of people will come to your blog and scan through your posts really quickly. If you have pictures, they are likely to spend more time on your website.

Photography is a great hobby to have for blogging!

Video Creation/Editing

Video creation has become a big part of blogging in the last little bit. Sometimes the easiest way to get traffic to your blog is to make videos. It helps you to get a higher ranking on Google and to show up in the video section of Google searches.

And again, people will just skim through your written content. They most likely won’t read your whole blog post but will instead read bits and pieces. (That’s why subheadings are so important!) But if you have video content, your readers might stay on your page to watch your videos.

You can get your content and your knowledge out there in a different way. Having different manners to get your content can only help!

You also need to worry about editing. Video content is great but you want to have quality content. You can make amazing videos as long as you work on your editing skills too!

Networking

Networking is one of those great hobbies to have for blogging! Blogging, just like social media, is about working with other people to improve your following.

When you work with others, you can gain some amazing friends but also some great helpers. Having connections for blogging makes a big difference.

Sometimes your friends can act as mentors. When people have been working on their blogs for longer than you, they can easily give you advice on how to make your website work.

Other times, it’s amazing just to have other people going through the same thing. If you have an issue, they are probably having the same problem. You can work on it together!

Blogging is much easier with connections!

Social Media Content Creation

When you first start out, social media is one of the most powerful tools you can have. In the beginning, getting traffic to your website is your number one priority but search engines aren’t going to start recognizing your content until a few months later.

Your social media content is what will get people to your website. When your content looks great, your social media is more likely to get people to your website.

By working on improving your abilities in creating social media content, you can get more traffic to your website.

Once your social media is established, it can be a great way to get feedback from your followers too. You can write more content based on what they want.

Computer Programming (HTML and CSS)

You don’t always think about all the logistical things that come with blogging, but running a website can be a little complicated. There is lots of programming behind it.

Yes, there are plenty of apps and plugins that can help you design your website without needing to do any coding. I use Elementor to design my blog, but there are times I could have used some knowledge of coding.

For example, I use a code for centring pictures and other things all the time. It’s basically the only code I know but it comes in handy.

Knowing a little bit of coding can only be helpful in the end. Having computer coding as one of your hobbies for blogging is a great idea!

Researching

Researching is a big part of blogging! You might think you are an expert in your niche of choice but there will be things you don’t know.

There is nothing wrong with doing some research for your blog posts. If anything, it’s suggested. A little extra detail can only enhance what you’ve already written.

Researching is great no matter what you are writing, but for blogging, you want to keep yourself informed in everything to do with your niche. It helps you to write the best material possible.

It is important to have all the latest information so that you can write accurate and helpful posts for your readers!

In All,

Blogging has become such a big thing over the last few years but there are some skills you need to learn before you can see your blog take off. Blogging without writing, editing, or photography skills can be detrimental to how much traffic you get and how many people like your blog. Take this as a chance to improve your hobbies for blogging. The results might be exactly what you are looking for! Let me know in the comments which of these hobbies you need to work on for your blog!
