When I was looking for a September theme, I went through my ultimate list of bullet journal themes. I stumbled upon locks and keys. Recently, I got the old skeleton keys (that no longer work) for my grandfather’s cabin because I really love vintage keys. A key theme would be a great homage to that, so I thought it would be great for September.

All the keys and locks in this month’s theme are black silhouettes. The words are all in cursive. Finally, I only chose one accent colour, a light purple. It turned out really good! I’m so excited to share it with you!

Lock and Key Theme

Materials

Cover Page

I love my cover page! It turned out so cute, especially the key!

The cover page starts with a banner. The ribbon banner has the month’s name written inside.

The key is my favourite part of this page! It looks amazing behind the ribbon banner. Lastly, I added a lock at the bottom of the page to really tie in the theme.

Calendar

This time, I only used one page. Last month, I didn’t need both sheets. But I did use as much of the space on the page as possible to maximize my writing room.

To create this page, I used the purple pen to make the top line of each week. The numbers are all made with shadows that are not coloured in. It makes the page pop just a little bit more!

I wrote letters to designate the days of the week above the calendar. They were created with the Fudenosuke brush pen.

This page is simple but practical.

Daily Highlights

Next, the daily highlights page is quite simple too. I used the purple brush pen to create the background for the numbers of the month. The numbers are the same shadowed ones from the previous spread.

“Daily Highlights” is written in beautiful calligraphy right above the key. The key underlines the title. It turned out really nice!

Water/Step Tracker

The water and steps tracker has two sections. Water intake has a purple column with shadowed numbers. I fill in the box next to it to track how much water I had that day. If I drink eight cups of water, I get to colour in the entire row for the day.

The steps tracker is exactly the same. Though, instead of colouring it in, I write in the number of steps I took that day.

To bring in the September theme, I added a black silhouette key between the two tracker sections. It helps to separate them on the page.

Habit Tracker

I needed space for nine habits this month. Using the Pigma Micron pens, I created the boxes for the month. Each of them has a purple shadow. The calendar has a box for each day of the month. The columns have calligraphy letters to designate the days of the week. Above all of that are the habits written in cursive with the Fudenosuke pen.

Again, I used a key as the underline for the title. I wrote “Habits” in purple cursive. To pull locks into the spread, I added one next to the title.

I absolutely adore how this page looks!

Week Spread

Lastly, each day of the week has a box. There is also one for my weekly to-do list. I offset the boxes in the design. The offset changes based on odd and even numbers. The numbers are shadowed like before, but this time, they are coloured in purple.

Finally, I added a key to the top of the page to keep with the September theme.

Ultimately, this month was really simple but so beautiful. I loved the black silhouette of the locks and keys! This September theme was just perfect!
