When you are working, hanging out with your friends, and doing other adulting activities, it can feel like you lost some of your own free time. It might seem like you have not had a hobby in years. Well, here are a few hobbies to try.

Reading

Reading might seem obvious but a lot of us have been neglecting it. Whether it is work or school, we are always too busy to read. Or with all the work and effort we put into our jobs or education, it might not seem worth the extra strain to read for fun. However, we are putting too much pressure on ourselves. Reading does not have to be a challenge. It can be a way to explore new adventures. You can escape through books. Even if you read for only a few minutes a day, reading is a great hobby to pick back up.

Writing

You might not think writing is for you because you have the notion that you have to be good at it. Writing can be tough. I will not deny it. But writing does not have to be this big looming task. I am not asking you to write a novel. Start small. Try journaling. Write out how your day went. You might find that you like it. If you are already into writing, maybe now is the time for you to write that novel, poem, or short story. It might not go anywhere, but the pride you will feel at having accomplished something will be worth it.

Makeup

Maybe you do your own makeup every day, but you do not know much more than your regular routine. Or maybe you almost never wear makeup. No matter what level of expertise you have, there is always room to grow. Makeup is a tool to make yourself feel more comfortable in your own skin, but it is also a skill. Practice makes perfect; therefore, you can always go look for ways to improve. There are lots of tutorials to help you learn new techniques or to learn more about the basics. Even if you only wear makeup on special occasions, it can be great to have more knowledge about how to apply it. Just have fun with it.

Dancing

If there was ever a time in your life you might need to know how to dance, it is in your 20s. Your 20s are when you are going clubbing with your friends. Why not invest a little more time into your skills? Dancing is fun and a great form of exercise. Not everyone is great at dancing, myself included, but that does not mean that you cannot have fun. Just try playing your music and dancing around your house or apartment. As they say, dance like nobody’s watching.

Karaoke

As I stated before, your 20s are when you are going out and having fun with your friends. Karaoke just happens to be one of those activities that your friends drag you to. Instead of dreading the experience, why not embrace it? You might not be great at singing, but that is not what karaoke is about. Karaoke is a fun activity where you also get to bond with friends. However, if you still do not like the idea of singing in front of others, you can always practice. There are lots of karaoke videos out there for you to sing along to whenever you want. You might find you enjoy a solo karaoke night.

Gaming

Video games are not just for children. There are lots of games out there that vary greatly. You might not know it yet, but there are plenty of games that might cater to you if you looked. There are lots of women in their 20s who play online games. Some even make money by playing video games. Do not discredit gaming before giving it a try. You might like it. The games allow you to immerse yourself in a new world. It can be fun to be someone else if even only for a few hours. There are lots of multiplayer games where you can make online friends. Video games are worth a shot.

Painting

I have to admit, painting is one of my favourite hobbies. It is a great way to express yourself artistically. You can easily get cheap supplies at the dollar store as well. Usually, the fear of making something subpar keeps people from painting, but who cares? So your painting is not perfect. It does not matter. As long as you have a great time, painting is worth it. You can try abstract painting if realism makes you anxious. Do not let a fear of failure keep you from trying. (Also, painting skills get better over time.) All in all, you will never know if you like it if you never try.

Running

Running is definitely not for everyone. It can be hard to get up the motivation to go running and to stick to it. However, running is great for you. It has both physical and mental benefits. It can keep you in shape while also boosting your mood. Running might take some time to achieve because you have to build up your muscles and endurance. Yet, the good news is that it is free. You can run whenever and wherever you want. You might need a pair of running shoes and some yoga pants, but a lot of us already have those in our closets.

Kickboxing

As much as we wish it were not true, it can be dangerous for women to walk around alone, especially at night. A great way to feel safer is to protect yourself. Not only is kickboxing a great exercise, but it is also a form of defense. Unlike running, kickboxing is not free. You will have to pay for a class, but the classroom aspect of kickboxing allows for socialization opportunities. You can find lots of new friends in exercise classes while learning a new skill.

Baking

Baking seems pretty straightforward. I know I am always craving chocolate chip cookies. If cookies are not your cup of tea, there are so many recipes to try. In my opinion, the best way to satisfy that sweet tooth is with some sort of dessert warm from the oven. However, women in their 20s can have difficulty with self-consciousness. But life should be enjoyed. That one little sweet makes a very little difference in the long run. You can always share your creations with others as well.

Sometimes you just have to get out there to discover yourself and what you like. We get busy with our lives, and we lose ourselves in the process. It is time to get back to the things you loved. Let me know what you like to do in your free time in the comments!
