Sometimes a theme just comes to you! And sometimes you need to do a lot of research. This month, I decided to try a theme generator. (Here‘s the link if you want to try it out!) It landed on puzzles and flowers, and I ran with it! My January bullet journal theme is puzzle roses. I am super excited to share it with you!
Puzzles and roses aren’t an obvious combination, so I had to come up with a theme that worked. I chose to encase the rose in puzzle pieces including the fallen petals. None of the rose elements can be found outside of the puzzle pieces. It’s one of my favourite themes so far! Check it out!
Cover Page
The cover page is my favourite spread of all! I started with an outline of the puzzle. Within the outline of the puzzle, I added the rose. Each petal is added one by one.
The puzzle pieces are broken up inside the puzzle but the lines do not interfere with the rose. There are also some separate puzzle pieces with petals on them to symbolize falling rose petals.
January is written in cursive at the bottom right corner of the page. The rose is the centrepiece of the spread and the theme, but the writing is bold enough to draw attention.
The page is in black and white to give it an old-timey feel. I think it looks great!
Calendar Page
I kept the calendar spread relatively simple. Each day gets a small square with a grey line and a number. The letters of the week are written in the same cursive as the cover page. To incorporate the theme, I added some puzzles pieces and a smaller rose in the bottom right corner of the page.
Daily Highlights/ One Line a Day
I have a small row of puzzle pieces on the top of the spread. In the row, we have a small rose. It looks so good at the top of the page! Above that, we have the title of the spread. (I prioritize the theme over the writing on the page.) Below, we have the numbers for the month. Each gets a line. Grey lines are used to separate the days.
It might be simple, but it does look great!
Habit Tracker
On this page, I added a full rose like the cover page. It takes up a good half of the page. “Habit Tracker” is at the top of the page, written in the same cursive as the previous spreads. There are also a few puzzle pieces with petals in them around the page.
I am tracking six habits in January. Each habit has a calendar that will be filled out throughout the month. The titles of the habits are written on the side. This spread is a little busy but it’s one of my favourites!
Water Tracker
One of the most important things that I track is water intake. So a whole page is necessary!
I have a side decor this time. The puzzle pieces and roses are super cute this way! Each day has a small puzzle piece for me to write in the number of cups I drank that day.
The title is written in cursive at the top of the page. I like how it turned out!
This page took a little more work because of all the little puzzle pieces. But it was worth it!
Budget Spread
This page looks amazing! I put the puzzle pieces and roses in a row in the middle of the page. It helps to separate the income section and expenses section of the page.
Each section has a spot for the date, description of the purchase or income, and the amount. I have used this type of spread before and it works great!
This page doesn’t have to be extravagant to work. The simplicity of the page makes it easier to use, while the small designs in the middle help to tie in the theme.
Weekly Spread
Next, we have the weekly spread. This spread is super easy to recreate! Each day of the month has a puzzle piece in which I can write my tasks. The pieces are offset to give the page more interest.
The days of the week are written inside the puzzle pieces. The writing is made tp be more obvious with a grey background. Simple but cute!
There you have it: my January bullet journal theme set-up! I wanted something a little unique to start the year and that’s exactly what I got. I adore how this theme turned out! Puzzles and roses were just meant to be! Let me know what your January bullet journal themes are in the comments!
