When I first started painting a couple of months ago, I needed to watch a lot of tutorials to get in the flow of painting. I was an amateur (and still am). However, I found lots of people online who provided the guidelines for better art.

If you are looking for some great YouTubers to watch to learn how to paint. Here are a few I have found:

Katie Jobling Art

Katie Jobling was one of the first YouTubers I found when I began my search. Her tutorials remain my favorite, even after months of finding other artists. She paints in an impressionistic style, meaning she paints to give the impression of the object or the scene instead of painting realistically. When I was starting out, realistic paintings were not in the cards for me. I did not have the skills, nor the ability to paint that way. Her tutorials gave me a way to paint without feeling pressured about how realistic it should look. She has some “Therapy with Art” tutorials where she paints to help her viewers relax. The paintings come out really beautiful, and they are very easy to follow. Jobling recently took some time off from YouTubing, so there is a time where she was not posting any tutorials. But she has come back with great new content. I highly recommend that you check out her videos if you are just getting started with painting or if you want to try out some impressionistic-style paintings.

Correa Art

Correa Art is a YouTube channel that shows you their process as they paint. Unlike Jobling’s tutorials, the tutorials are not spoken. There are no explicitly stated instructions other than what you see. However, the channel is great at showing all their steps. From mixing the paints to adding the details, you can follow along easily. Correa Art does have some more difficult tutorials compared to Jobling, so they are great if you are looking for a bit more of a challenge or if you prefer more realistic paintings. The videos are also perfect for learning new painting techniques that you can apply to your own art. Correa Art has some really good content that I recommend you go see even if you plan just to watch the videos. They are great for relaxing.

KevinOilPainting

KevinOilPainting is one of the best oil painting channels I have found so far. Though I do not use oil paints in my own art, the techniques he uses can be applied to lots of different types of paintings. On the channel, you can also find some acrylic painting tutorials. Kevin walks you through the painting as he shows you what to do. The scenes that he paints are typically realistic and can seem a little daunting at first; however, Kevin makes it much easier by showing you how he creates his final products. As the paintings on this channel are a little more advanced, I would hold off until you have the basics down before seeking out his tutorials unless you are up for a challenge. Your paintings might not come out exactly like his at first, but with time and practice, Kevin will get you painting like a pro in no time.

Robin Sealark

Robin Sealark is a little different from the rest of the people and channels in this list. Sealark’s content focuses more on tips and tricks for how to paint instead of tutorials. She does have a few tutorials, but they are fewer compared to the other channels listed. Yet, Robin Sealark still has some great content. If you are looking to get more know-how on painting, such as blending techniques and other tips, she has some great videos for you. Robin has a fun-loving personality and can be pretty funny. The channel showcases not just the art but the life of an artist. Her videos are worth a look. When it comes to painting tutorials, Sealark is great at painting realistic waves. For those of you who are interested in painting realistic water and waves, Robin Sealark is a good match for you.

Bob Ross

What kind of painting list would this be if I did not include Bob Ross? Bob Ross is one of the most notable painters on YouTube. He went on to paint for 31 seasons of his show “The Joy of Painting”. You can now find the episodes on YouTube. Bob Ross is known for his great tutorials. His optimistic personality and his easy-to-follow tutorials make his videos fun to watch. If you are just getting starting with painting, I recommend you go watch a couple of his episodes. His style might not be how you want to paint, but in the process of painting, he shows you some great tips, such as how to portray trees and mountains. Bob Ross is the perfect online instructor to begin your painting journey.

Here are just a few of the YouTubers and their channels that create painting tutorials. There are plenty of other painting content creators out there that are just waiting to be discovered, but these few people should help you get started with painting. Good luck!
