Bullet journaling is such a great hobby. It keeps you organized, on track with your habits, and motivated to continue working on your goals. But what would you say if bullet journaling wasn’t just a tool for self-improvement? What if I told you that you could make money by bullet journaling?!
Bullet journaling isn’t the most obvious choice for making money but plenty of people have made a living this way. Check out these great ways that you can make money by bullet journaling!!
Make Printables
One of the easiest ways to make money bullet journaling is to share your content. Other people are busy and don’t want to put in as much effort as you have in their journals.
There are plenty of people who share printable versions of their journals online who make money from them.
Printables typically come in two forms. Either you have a scanned hand-drawn version of a journal spread or you have a digital version of a spread.
Canva is the easiest tool I’ve found so far for making printables. (Check it out here and get a Free pro trial!)
If you decide to do hand-drawn spreads, it’s as simple as scanning them into the computer.
Most printables can be found on Etsy. It is one of the most popular places to sell and buy printables. However, a lot of people who make and sell printables also run their own websites where they can sell their products too. Both are a great option! (But, heads-up, creating and running your own website is much harder.)
Create and Sell Stickers
To make money by bullet journaling, stickers are a great way to go!
You’d be surprised how many people need stickers for their bullet journals. If you are artistic and create your own doodles for your bullet journal, selling stickers should be easy for you.
How to make stickers isn’t super obvious. There are people and instructions to help you with that. Skillshare has some great classes to teach you how to make stickers. (Get it now for a FREE month-long trial of premium Skillshare!)
Stickers are pretty simple to make and they don’t cost too much, but if your stickers are really good, people will pay a fair amount to have them. I’ve seen plenty of bullet journalers rave over stickers before. You shouldn’t have any problems there!
Stickers are primarily sold on Etsy. Though, sticker sellers have been known to have their own websites and shops too. For example, JulianneDoodles, a popular bullet journaler on YouTube, sells her stickers from her online shop PepperCut. You can too!
The difficulty with selling anything is that you do need to get your products out there. The more popularity you have, the more likely people will buy them. I suggest you start up some social media accounts and get some followers to boost your sales.
Make Custom Journals
Custom bullet journals are a little harder to sell and make than the two products mentioned above.
There are two ways that you could sell pre-made/custom journals: selling a pre-designed journal (all the designs are chosen and created before they buy) or working with the customer to create a journal.
When it comes to custom journals, people tend to want to have a say in what is included. We don’t all need the same things in our journals. Some spreads that you love might be useless to others. For that reason, you might not get as many sales from a pre-designed journal. However, some people just don’t want to put in all the effort to create a journal and might like it better than working on it themselves. It depends on the customer!
Either way, creating an entire journal takes a lot of time and effort, especially if you have to work with the customer to design the bullet journal.
This option isn’t an easy option for making money. Bullet journals are personal! The client has to love it to want to use it. So you really have to listen and create exactly what they want. It won’t be easy! Just keep in mind that this is a large job to take on.
Sell Old Journals and Supplies
This way to make money by bullet journaling is pretty simple!
Almost every bullet journaler has a few journals lying around. We can’t help it! They just looked so pretty on the shelf! But now, we have millions of journals and no use for them.
You aren’t necessarily making a profit with this option but you might get some of your money back!
You can easily sell your old (but not used) journals and bullet journal supplies online. Facebook marketplace, eBay, Facebook groups, etc. There are lots of places where you can sell your old journals. People get nice journals for cheap and you get some of your money back. Win-win!
However, keep in mind that no one wants to spend full price on a journal from someone else when they could get it brand new for the same price from the retailer.
You won’t get all your money back but getting some of it back is always nice.
Blog About It
Okay, I’ll admit that this method isn’t quite as lucrative as the options above. Blogging takes a lot of time and a fairly large following to gain any money. If your blog takes off, it is a great way to make money but it certainly isn’t a quick way.
Blogging is great though! You can do whatever you want with it. You can write articles based on what your interests are. If you love creating bullet journal layouts, you can create articles about different kinds of spreads. Or maybe you like the more technical side of bullet journaling, you can write about how to start a journal or how the Bullet Journal Method came to be.
As long as you love what you are writing, that’s all that matters. Just know that you need be passionate about it. Without that passion, you’ll lose motivation before you see any profits (and this isn’t a cheap business, to begin with.)
Blogging does take a lot of time and effort, but it can be worth it if you give it enough time to grow!
Create a YouTube Channel
Here’s another example of something that can be great for making money but takes a lot of time.
Creating a YouTube channel isn’t a 1-2-3 step process that makes you instantly famous. It can be hard to get your name out there when so many other people are creating videos about the same things, especially when it comes to bullet journaling.
There are thousands of bullet journalers with YouTube channels. You have to make sure you stand out among the crowd to get noticed. This takes time! For some, it can take a couple of months. For others, it can take years. Some people never end up making popular videos at all.
You will have to learn how to market yourself as well as learn how to take videos and edit them. It’s not easy and requires lots of expensive equipment.
Don’t give up hope! Lots of bullet journalers have made it as YouTubers, like AmandaRachLee. So it is definitely possible! Just keep trying!
Become an Instagram Influencer
Last but not least, you can become an Instagram influencer. I’ll be honest. I don’t know much about being an influencer or how to become one, so I can’t advise you in that way. But I do know that influencers can make a good living.
Bullet journal Instagram accounts are becoming really popular. Some of the top-notch bullet journaling Instagram accounts have hundreds of thousands of followers. There is a large market for bullet journals and supplies right now!
They can easily make money by advertising the products they use and giving out codes for their followers’ purchases. For instance, bullet journal creators like Archer & Olive and Notebook Therapy love to give out codes to popular Instagrammers. They know that their products will then get seen by plenty of people in their target market.
It’s a great win-win situation! The Instagrammer gets a commission from sending people to the producer, and the sellers get more customers.
You will need lots of followers before becoming an influencer. So bear in mind, that you will need to put in a lot of effort before you make any money, but this is still a great opportunity.
In all,
There are a lot of ways to make money by bullet journaling. You could try making printables or stickers. You could make a YouTube or Instagram account for bullet journaling. And I’m sure there are ways to make money that I haven’t thought of! If you love bullet journaling and want to make a career out of it, look no further! You can do whatever you want as long as you stay motivated and keep trying! In what ways have you made money bullet journaling? Let me know in the comments!
